SidebarWhat Happens to Google's Other Social Networking Efforts?

As Friendster, MySpace and many other social-networking sites have discovered, a successful business finds a niche that draws in a large number of users and offers intriguing, easy-to-use services that keep those users interested.
Whereas Facebook,LinkedIn and Twitter have excelled at this formula, Google's efforts in this area—Buzz(2010), Wave (2009) and Orkut (2004)—have faltered. The search-engine giant hopes its search is over with this week's introduction of the new Google+ (Google Plus) networ…

HOW TO MAKE LINKEDIN WORK FOR YOU & YOUR COMPANY.....

5 Ways I’m Using LinkedIn – to Drive Traffic, Build Community, Generate Sales and Build Influence

Not a day goes by when we don’t see Twitter and Facebook as being talked about as essential social networks for bloggers to be investing time into – but over the last few months I’ve been investing a little extra time into another social network – one that I wonder if some have forgotten about a little – LinkedIn.

I’ve long had a LinkedIn Account (I’d love to connect with you there) but I’ve not really known what to do with it for a long time – but lately I’m seeing more and more opportunities in the network. Let me quickly mention a few:

1. Companies

In the last week I set ProBlogger up as a ‘Company’ on LinkedIn. I always knew you could do this but didn’t see the point, that was until I saw that you could also add your company’s products on LinkedIn. I’ve no…

ONLY GERMAN ENGINEERING COULD COME UP WITH THIS!!!!...THERE IS A REASON WHY GERMANY LEADS THE WORLD...AS ENGINEERS...

Have you ever seen a river over a river? AMAZING....

Even after you see it, it is still hard to believe!
Water Bridge in Germany . What a feat!
Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long . . . now this is engineering!

This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany ,
As part of the unification project. It is located in the city of Magdeburg , near Berlin .
The photo was taken on the day of inauguration . . .

To those who appreciate engineering projects, here's a puzzle for you armchair engineers
. . . and physicists.

Question:

Did that bridge have to be designed to withstand the additional weight of ship and barge traffic,
Or just the weight of the water?

Answer:

It only needs to be designed to withstand the weight of the water!

Why?

A ship always displaces an amount of water that weighs the same as the ship, regardless of how heavily a ship may be loaded.

BRAZIL: Diniz asks Casino to study Carrefour merger plan

By: Dean Best | 1 July 2011

Brazilian businessman Abilio Diniz has asked Casino, his co-shareholder in the country's largest retailer CBD, to examine the proposal to merge the business with the local operations of Carrefour.

The plan has angered French retailer Casino, which has labelled the idea as a "illegal" and hostile".

Speculation that Diniz and Carrefour had been in talks was first reported in May.

Casino then responded by arguing that no discussions on "strategic projects" could be held without its agreement and involvement.

The company filed for arbitration with the International Chamber of Commerce.

Since the proposal was published on Tuesday (28 June), Casino CEO Jean-Charles Naouri has said the plan emerged after "unlawful discussions" between Diniz and Carrefour, which broke an agreement between the two CBD shareholders.

Naouri has called for the board of Wilkes, the holding compan…

BRAZIL DOUBLE CROSS LOOKS TO BACK-FIRE AS "CASINO ROYALE" DOUBLES DOWN...

FRANCE: Casino again ups stake in Brazilian retailer
By: Dean Best | 30 June 2011

Casino has again increased its stake in CBD

Casino has again upped its stake CBD in a further twist in the battle for control of the Brazilian retailer.

The French retailer lifted its shareholding in CBD from 37% to 43.1%, it said today (30 June).

The move came two days after a Brazilian investment fund issued a plan to merge CBD with the local operations of Casino's French rival Carrefour.

The proposal, put forward by investment vehicle Gama and backed by the Brazilian National Development Bank, would ultimately give Carrefour 50% of CBD, also known by its trading name of Grupo Pao de Acucar.

Casino co-owns CBD with Brazil's Diniz Group, headed by Abilio Diniz, through a holding company called Wilkes.

The French firm claims a 2005 deal with Mr Diniz means it has the right to become CBD's sole shareholder in 2012.

Speculation of talks between Diniz and Carrefour first emerged last month, angering Casi…

INDIA TO REFOCUS EXPORT EFFORTS TO MIDDLE EAST COUNTRIES...

India to double mango exports

India, the largest producer of mangoes in the world, plans measures to double its fresh mango exports, a top government official said. In this regard the country is working on infrastructure development and also establishing linkage of production hub with markets that will help improve its export competitiveness.

“The linkage of production hub with markets will help to get better prices for its produce to producer and it will also encourage the producer to produce more qualify products,” A.S. Rawat, General Manager, Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, told Khaleej Times in an exclusive interview in Dubai on Wednesday.

India produces around 15 million tonnes mangoes that accounts for over 50 per cent of the world production. Other major producers of mangoes in the world are Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Australia and Philippines etc. India exports less than half per cent of its total production which is very dis…

FRESKA STRUGGLES TO REMAIN RELEVANT IN THE MANGO DEAL....

US: More varieties of mangos available from Freska amid growing demand
Freska, leading provider of mangos to the United States, has three additional varieties of mangos currently available. The mangos are the Tommy Atkins, Kent and Ataulfo. These mangos, which are imported from Mexico, come into the United States amid a rising demand for the fruit.

The three varieties all come from Mexico, which is one of the nations where Freska sources their mangos.
Although mangos are typically known for their sweet taste and great flavor, the Kent is of special note because it is especially great-tasting.
Volume is healthy as these mangos are currently in high season.
Freska currently brings 8 – 9 million cartons of mangos into the US annually.

Demand for mangos is currently high and has been growing year on year. Gary Clevenger, from Freska, notes “Demand has risen over the past five years here in the United States.”

He attributes this, in part, to better marketing by shippers, retailers and Th…

Ahold has appointed James McCann in a newly-created
development role just a month after he left surprisingly left rival retailer Carrefour.

However, Ahold has appointed McCann - who has also held roles at Tesco and Sainsbury's - to its executive board as chief commercial and development officer.

The Dutch retailer said yesterday (30 June) that McCann will be responsible for leading Ahold's e-commerce initiatives and will strengthen its online business globally. Additionally, he will play a role in expanding the company's operations in new markets.
