USAID MISSED THE BOAT ON PAKISTAN MANGO PROJECT: FRESH EXPORTS WAS NOT THE WAY TO START...SHOULD HAVE STARTED WITH AN IQF FROZEN PROGRAM...

Transit time and Phyto sanitary barriers were the obstacle that finally brought down the Chemonics / USAID mango project from pakistan.

The simple solution was to invest in a fresh cut operation, Frozen IQF is the best way to keep fruit for an extended period of time (allowing for cheaper ocean frieght) and a way around the irradiation debacle from Pakistan.

Perhaps if the so-called experts ever consulted with experienced exporters and marketers, these problems could have been avoided....

NORTHWESTERN INDIA MANGO REGION HIT BY POOR PRODUCTION

Gujarat's mango exports drop 50% due to lower production

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat's mango exports through air cargo have dropped by almost 50% this year mainly due to lower production. Last year, Gujarat exported 372 tonne mango while, this year, exporters managed to export only 176 tonne through air cargo. Exporters say late arrivals caused the damage.

Data with Ahmedabad air-cargo complex custodian GSEC Ltd shows that last year, mango exports were 73 tonne in April. The exports this year have dropped to 1.8 tonne (for Ahmedabad region) for the same month . "We witnessed mango export of 183 tonne in May last year, which is almost equal to this year's total exports. The dip in exports can be attributed to late and lower production," said GSEC Ltd director Samir mankad.

"This year, Kesar mango arrived very late. Also, production was very low. Prices too were higher by around 30% during the season. April to mid-May period is considered best for mango exports, but we …
