Australia's inflation accelerates on rising food prices

Australia's consumer prices rose more than forecast in the second quarter as high cost of food and fuel put pressure on inflation.

Prices rose by 3.6% in the three months to the end of June from the same period last year, latest data showed.

Food prices in the country have been rising in the aftermath of the devastation caused by floods and cyclones earlier this year.

Analysts said the data may force the central bank to raise interest rates.

"It's a nasty looking number," said Michael Blythe of Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

"It suggests the direction of the next rate move is going to be up, even if there is some uncertainty about when the Reserve Bank might pull the trigger," he added.

Mango party in Japan celebrates ban lifting

Irfan SiddiquiTuesday, July 26, 2011

TOKYO: Pakistan held its first mango party in Japan after the Japanese government lifted a 16-year-old ban on import of Pakistani mangoes.

The mango party was organised in the Pakistani Embassy in Tokyo where more than 150 Japanese citizens from different businesses were invited to taste Pakistani mangoes.

The chief guest was Chief Executive Officer of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Tariq Puri who was in Japan for one week to explore the Japanese market for Pakistani mangoes and textile goods.

Puri said on the occasion he expected the Japanese to prefer Pakistani mangoes over those of other countries.

He appreciated the efforts of Pakistani Embassy in Japan to get the ban lifted. Puri said Japan could be a huge market for Pakistani mangoes.

He said the government was working to enhance mango export to Japan.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Noor Jadmani said Japan is a growing market for mango and …

WASHINGTON: At a time when the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the US is at its "lowest ebb", the Obama administration hopes to sweeten the ties with its mango diplomacy.

The first consignment of mangoes from Pakistan, that too the mouthwatering 'Chaunsa' variety, is all set to land in the US this week, thus ending the decades old ban on import of any variety of mango from Pakistan.

Incidentally the mangoes are flown from Pakistan to Chicago, the home town of President Barack Obama which also has a significant Pakistani community.

The Pakistani Consulate in Chicago has organized a "grand mango arrival ceremony" on Friday, a Pakistani embassy official said.

Volume is dropping dramatically as Southern Sinaloa is winding down.

Mainly Kents and Keitts being shipped to the USA market.

Nayarit is down to three sheds that are still operational.

Southern Sinaloa still has eight sheds operating.

Total volume shipped this week is just 282,547 (4Kg) cartons and we will see the weekly volume just a little over 1,000,000 cartons, probably around 1.5 million maximum.

Crossings are running just about even between Arizona and Texas, with Texas having a slight advantage.

Southern Sinaloa with 8 of 9 Registered Sheds operating has shipped 9,864,153 cartons (YTD).

Nayarit with 13 of 14 Registered HWT Sheds operating has shipped 9,304,555 cartons (YTD)

Michoacan is still the volume leader out of Mexico for the 2011 mango season with 12,114,819 which will be difficult to match at this late date in the season.

The most productive sheds to date are Cultivares Mexicanos (…
