Piura, Peru - CAMPOSOL S.A. Peru's largest agricultural exporter harvested, packed and will be shipping the first container of KENT mangoes from the Tambogrande area in the San Lorenzo valley in Peru.

This was an isolated instance of KENT mango that was ahead of schedule.

The fruit was from a private farmer and not the CAMPOSOL fields.

The fruit was harvested this weekend and packed at the CAMPOSOL facility in Sullana (EMPAFRUT).

The vessel should be sailing by Monday at the latest from the port of Paita.

Expect arrival in Europe within the next three weeks.

If alarm bells aren't sounding in Peru, they should be!

The well that once overflowed for Peru's mango industry has been neglected.

Recent controversy over crop projections has brought to light some very shocking data.

This is a story about neglect in the Peruvian mango industry.

The IMO has discovered some very shocking production numbers out of Peru that indicate that the mango industry is on the verge of extinction through neglect of soil nutrition, among other areas.

Recent newspaper articles from El Tiempo newspaper (Piura, Peru) bring to light these concerns.

The recent article published yesterday in Spanish on the IMO BLOG ;

http://mangoworldmagazine.blogspot.com/2011/11/preocupante-la-baja-productividad-del.html

confirms that:

1)  there are 20,000 hectares in production in the San Lorenzo Valley in the Piura region of Peru.
