MEETING SCHEDULED IN PAKISTAN TO PROMOTE USAID MANGO PROJECT ....

ISLAMABAD: Second Annual Mango Conference will be held here on January 31 (Tuesday) with an aim to enhance mango production as well as its export from the country.



The event will be organized by the USAID under Pakistan Firms Project and theme of this year’s conference is “Reaching New Export Destinations”. Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim and US Ambassador Cameron Munter are likely to open the conference.


The key stakeholders, beneficiaries, government officials and mango industry representatives will attend the conference and present their input to enhance production and reduce the post- harvest losses as well as to shelve life of the product.



The conference will review the successes of the best years so far in the history of Pakistan’s mango exports and galvanize efforts for continued progress, so that farmers can reap greater financial rewards for their crops.

Cardenas



Mario René Cardenas has joined Farmer’s Best International as a salesman.

He comes to the company from McAllen, Texas-based RCF Produce. A McAllen native, Cardenas has 12 years of produce experience, including stints at L&M Cos. and Coast Tropical.



“He’ll be concentrating on the fruit side but he’s already sold a lot of veg,” said Jerry Wagner, director of sales and marketing.




Cardenas joins Farmer’s Best as it plans to launch its mango season, with shipments expected to start Feb. 15.



The company distributes from warehouses in McAllen and Nogales, Ariz.

 Food safety scheme owners whose food safety management schemes had been previously recognised against the Fifth Edition of the Guidance Document were given until 31st December 2011 to reapply for full benchmarking against the Sixth Edition.

GFSI UPDATES FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT FORMAT FOR SIXTH EDITION OF GFSI GUIDANCE DOCUMENT ...

We would like to provide you with an update on the food safety management schemes that have resubmitted for benchmarking against the GFSI Guidance Document Sixth Edition.

On 5th January 2011, GFSI released the Sixth Edition of its Guidance Document. Food safety scheme owners whose food safety management schemes had been previously recognised against the Fifth Edition of the Guidance Document were given until 31st December 2011 to reapply for full benchmarking against the Sixth Edition.

The GFSI Guidance Document was drafted with input from food safety experts from all over the world, and defines the process by which food safety schemes may gain recognition by GFSI and gives guidance to these schemes.

Benchmarking is a “procedure by which a food safety-related scheme is compared to the GFSI Guidance Document”. Upon completion of the benchmarking process, a food safety management scheme is ‘recognised’ by GFSI when all of its criteria are considered to be equivalent to the requir…
