Port of Paita, Peru

IMO sources are reporting that many exporters had cargo left at the Port of Paita due to an overbooking by MAERSK LINES.

Weekly shipping numbers for Sunday 05, 2012 were dramatically affected when Peruvian mango exporters were unable to ship fruit on the MAERSK feeder vessel that came into port from Chile already overbooked.

USA TARGETS ILLICIT DRUG ROUTES THROUGH CENTRAL AMERICA ...

Multinational operation targets transnational organized crime

Courtesy Story

MIAMI, Fla. -- Joint Interagency Task Force South, a component of U.S. Southern Command, announced, Feb. 8, its participation in Operation Martillo, a U.S., European, and western hemisphere partner nation effort targeting illicit trafficking routes in coastal waters along the Central American isthmus.

The United States contribution to this multinational detection, monitoring, and interdiction operation includes U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels, aircraft from U.S. federal law enforcement agencies, and military and law enforcement units from various nations working together to deny transnational criminal organizations the ability to exploit these transshipment routes for the movement of narcotics, precursor chemicals, bulk cash, and weapons.

In describing the purpose of the operation, the commander of SOUTHCOM, U.S. Air Force Gen. Douglas Fraser, highlighted the extent of illicit trafficking in the region and it…

SENAMHI ADVIERTE LLUVIAS DE LIGERAS A MODERADAS

Lluvia inunda puestos y calles

www.lahora.pe

Two consecutive evenings of heavy rains in Tambogrande have exporters worried that late blooming groves may have to be left for processors rather than fresh export.

Motupe area has not been affected, but Tambogrande and Piura have received heavy rainfall the past two evenings as the rains come after heat induced evaporation during the daytime.

AN UPDATE ON MANGO ORCHARDS THAT WERE FLOODED LAST YEAR IN PAKISTAN ...

After flooding the danger of Mango Root diseases & its management
By Hadi Laghari Technical Manager ASSIM Agricultural Farm Sindh, Pakistan

Root oxygen requirement doubles for each 10C rise in root system temperature (max 30C/86F). The dilemma for the grower is that with a 10C rise in temperature, root system oxygen requirements will double, while the oxygen carrying capacity of the solution will drop by over 25%!

The flood water unable to supply the root's oxygen demands, leading to prolonged oxygen starvation and causing anoxia. Oxygen starvation will result in slow growth; mineral deficiencies root die-back and reduced yields. Oxygen starvation will stress the plant, leading to an eventual attack by opportunistic pathogens like phytophthora.

"Root rot" is a common waterborne disease that can seriously affect mango trees. "Pythium" is a generic term for several different root rot and stem rot fungus species (including Pythium, Verticillium, and Phytophthora, an…
