CUBAZUELA PART II: U.S. expels two Venezuelan diplomats ...

By Anne Gearan,March 11, 2013

The United States has expelled two Venezuelan diplomats, the State Department said Monday, a diplomatic tit-for-tat following the Latin American oil giant’s expulsion of two American military attachés last week.

The two mid-level diplomats left the country Sunday, one day after the State Department notified the Venezuelan Embassy that each had been declared “persona non grata,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.

Chavez’s recent death has complicated the already difficult diplomatic dealings between the two countries. Embassies are open in both capitals, but without full ambassadors in charge.

The two expelled officials are second secretary Jose Orlando Montanez Olivares and consular officer Victor Camacaro Mata. The State Department gave no information on the length of the men’s service …

THE Honey Gold mango was a fluke, a natural cross-pollination between Queensland's most beloved mango and a mystery mango variety.

What emerged was a single fruit of a new variety of mango on a tree groaning with Bowen mangoes.

That single fruit, now called a Honey Gold, would normally have been eaten and the seed thrown away, but by sheer good luck this one was planted in a mango nursery.

The seedling was bought by Rockhampton mango farmer Noel Sammon who noted that the fruit it produced was different to all his 1800 other trees.

Honey Golds have yellower and sweeter flesh and are less stringy than the Kensington Pride (the official name of the Bowen mango).

Queensland-based grower Pinata Farms bought the Honey Gold Plant Breeders Rights from Mr Sammon and commercialised the variety …

Mangoes could have caused Magsayay plane crash

Published on 16 March 2013

An excess weight of mangoes on board the C-47 plane of the late president Ramon Magsaysay have factored in that plane’s crash that killed the nation’s most-loved President.

The late president’s son and namesake, Team PNoy Senate bet and former sen. Ramon “Jun” Magsaysay Jr., made the revelation on the eve of the 56th death anniversary of his father who died in a plane crash in Mt. Macatunggal in Cebu province back in March 17, 1957.

The late president was in the province that time because of inspecting housing projects, among other meetings with local leaders.

“The plane was maximized. The maximum capacity of the plane was filled up at 27, but they boarded a lot of mangoes which could equal the weight of at least 12 persons more,” Jun Magsaysay told reporters.

With additional weight, Magsaysay said that the C-47 had to fly south for a longer time first before going north to Manila, but th…
