Venezuelan Regime targets disaffected ex-supporters

Associated Press – Tue, Apr 23, 2013

Associated Press/Fernando Llano - In this April 7, 2013 photo, a man holds up a T-shirt that reads in Spanish "Long live Chavez!" with the name Chavez replaced with Capriles, referring to  opposition presidential candidate.

TACARIGUA, Venezuela (AP) — The razor-close vote to replace late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has sparked what opposition leaders and human rights groups say is a government crackdown on public employees who either didn't back Chavez's hand-picked successor or failed to show sufficient support for the ruling party.

The April 14 election had revealed a major shift in public support away from the Chavez program as problems such as food shortages, soaring inflation and crime, as well as the absence of the late leader's famous charm, led hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans to back the opposition for the first time since Chavez took power 14 years ago.

Pakistan: Luftabad to begin exporting mangoes in July 2013

As one of the top four mango-producing countries in the world, Pakistan grows about 1.7 million tons of mangoes annually.

Of that production, about eight percent is exported, and Luftabad Farms will join in on that exporting activity when they begin their mango production this summer.

“Our mangoes come from two clusters of regions,” explained Tariq Khan, managing director for Luftabad.

“One cluster is in the Sidh region, and the other cluster is in the Punjab region.”

The former region will begin production in early June and will wrap up by the first week of July. At that point, volumes of fruit will be available for export, and Khan is optimistic about the upcoming export season.

“The upcoming crop is being evaluated better than last season's,” said Khan.

“That will give us quality supplies, and we are hopeful about having more orders this coming season.”

Kahn anticipates most of their shipments will go to mainland Europe, the UK, the Middle East and East Asia.

To better supply the…
