Forget Harvard: Here's Where To Go To College If You Want A High-Paying Job

Prestige isn't everything.

Want a prestigious education? Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are the way to go. But if you're looking for a high-paying career after graduation, you may want to look elsewhere.

A new study from the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program ranks two- and four-year colleges based on economic outcomes for graduates—and none of the Ivy League even makes it to the top 10 for the four-year institutions. This is the data that the U.S. News and World Report rankings won't tell you.

Some of the major findings: Schools with high completion rates and good financial aid are linked to better economic outcomes. And schools with lots of students in STEM majors (like computer science and engineering), as well as majors with paths to higher paying careers in business and health care, also have superior financial payback.

In order to come up with the rankings, researchers looked at three factors: mid-career earnings, occupational earnings (wheth…

A Swedish family has eaten only organic food for two weeks as part of a study into pesticides in food, with staggering results.

A Swedish family has eaten only organic food for two weeks as part of a study conducted by The Swedish Environmental Research Institute.

The study – commissioned by Swedish supermarket chain Coop – saw the family dramatically change its diet, with impressive results.

A video about the study introduced the family of five, with mother Anette explaining why they typically didn’t eat organic food.

"It costs more than conventional food and we’re a big family,"she said in the video.

Anette, her husband Mats and three children all had their urine tested before the study and it was found to contain a number of different pesticides including insecticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators.

During the two weeks, they had their urine tested daily to track any changes.

At the end of the two weeks, almost all the pesticides found in their bodies were gone.

"When you hear this, you think about your children,"Anette said.

CUBAZUELA : How Firms Scammed Venezuela's Foreign Currency System

ColombiaMoney LaunderingEcuadorVenezuela

Firms allegedly exploited Venezuela's official exchange rate for financial gain.

Overcharging and falsification of exports from Ecuador to Venezuela has become a lucrative business for complicit officials, and drained billions of dollars from the country's treasury.

It is a strange paradox for an oil-exporting country: the US dollar has become Venezuela's rarest and coveted good. Even more so than precooked corn flour, toilet paper or even medicine.

This has become even more true recently, as falling international oil prices caused foreign currency inflows to drop by more than half (there's a $40 billion public deficit forecast for 2015).

But dollars were rare even before this, during the oil boom of 2003 to 2008. President Hugo Chavez -- who died in office in March 2013 -- implemented Venezuela's foreign currency control system for political reasons in 2003. The nation's foreign cu…

7 countries where Americans can study at universities, in English, for free (or almost free)

Since 1985, U.S. college costs have surged by about 500 percent, and tuition fees keep rising. In Germany, they've done the opposite.

The country's universities have been tuition-free since the beginning of October, when Lower Saxony became the last state to scrap the fees. Tuition rates were always low in Germany, but now the German government fully funds the education of its citizens -- and even of foreigners.

Explaining the change, Dorothee Stapelfeldt, a senator in the northern city of Hamburg, said tuition fees "discourage young people who do not have a traditional academic family background from taking up study. It is a core task of politics to ensure that young women and men can study with a high quality standard free of charge in Germany."
