PAKISTAN : Govt trying to introduce mango varieties in int’l markets


Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is trying to introduce different varieties of locally produced mango in international market for enhancing export of the horticultural produce of the country.

Addressing the prize-distribution ceremony held here in connection with three-day golden jubilee mango festival, the Sindh CM said mangoes of Mirpurkhas due to their appetising aroma and lavish taste hold a unique status not only within Pakistan but in different countries of the world including European and the American continents. 

Mirpurkhas produces new varieties of the sweet and sour fruit, known as the king of fruits, every year.

The federal government was also requested for measures to increase the export of Pakistani mangoes with the help of foreign embassies and missions, he added.

INDIA : Over 35,000kg mangoes stolen from orchards

SURAT: Mohan Patel, a farmer in Tukwada village of Pardi taluka and his workers have been keeping round-the-clock vigil at his 10-acre mango orchard. In the last one week, Patel has lost as much as 2,000kg top quality alphonso and kesar mangoes. These fruits valued at over Rs 1.4 lakh were stolen by mango thieves. 

Despite security and CCTV cameras, mango orchard owners in the interior villages of Valsad are a worried lot. As many as 30 incidents of mango thefts have been reported in last fortnight wherein the gangs have stolen an estimated 35,000kg of mangoes of different varieties. 

Two days ago, a mango orchard owner in Pardi taluka caught one out of five mango thieves who entered his orchard, while others managed to escape with 500kg mangoes in a vehicle.
