After a long day of experiencing intensive back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back cooking demos at Congreso Ensenada Gastronómica, it was obvious where the after party would be, at Manzanilla, a funky restaurant from Benito Molina and chef-wife Solange that celebrates local seafood on a side street near the harbor.

Street Gourmet LA founder Bill Esparza once again led us down that path, as he did in 2009, during an epic introduction to Baja.

The Molinas are some of the best-known chefs in Baja. He previously worked at the Four Seasons in Mexico City and she attended culinary school in Charlotte before they became restaurateurs and TV stars in Mexico.

The couple currently owns two restaurants: Manzanillain Ensenada, and Silvestre, a campestre in Valle Del Guadalupe.

Unfortunately, Muelle Tres recently c…

GLOBAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK : Europe’s Greek Tragedy

John Mauldin | Aug 05, 2015

In this week’s Outside the Box we have a unique diagnosis of Europe’s ills from … a medical doctor.

The author is Dr. Luc De Keyser, who currently serves as the chief medical information officer at Xperthis, the largest provider of hospital information systems solutions in Belgium.

He has done pioneering work in multicenter clinical trials, medical ontologies, paleonutrition, and examining human conflict from an evolutionary perspective.

Dr. De Keyser (writing for Stratfor) is not sanguine about Europe’s future. There are times, he reminds us, when a doctor has to make the tough call and conclude that the patient’s case is simply without hope. It's a painful diagnosis and not one that the doctor enjoys sharing with the patient. But at some point the patient must be told.

The fundamental obstacle to solving Europe’s problems, he asserts, is that Europe is simply too complex to fix in any straightforward or dependable way:

For such problems, there are no simp…

HOLIDAY (FOX 13) -

These are not your average, grocery store mangoes. Because of the heavy rains recently, a mango tree in the backyard of a Holiday home has been dropping its fruit, and what's coming off the tree is gigantic.

Uyenn Phuong of Pinellas Park said that the tree is in the backyard of her in-laws' home

The mangoes, 8 total, have fallen and their average weight is somewhere around six pounds.

To put it in perspective, the photos of the mangoes show that they are larger than Phuong's young son's head.

The current Guiness World Record for the heaviest mango is about 7.57 pounds, and that's in the Philippines.

Phuong said her father-in-law gardens and he bought the mango tree at the Mustang Flea Market in Pinellas Park, but said she doesn't know if he does anything to make the fruits grow this large.

"When he first bought it, it was just a little tree in the po…
