Massive El Niño is now 'too big to fail,' scientist says

Satellite images comparing Oct. 1, 2015, and Oct. 2, 1997, show large areas of white, which indicate high sea levels -- a reflection of high sea temperatures. The images show how this year's El Nino could be as powerful as the one in 1997, the strongest El Nino on record. (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory)

An El Niño that is among the strongest on record is gaining strength in the Pacific Ocean, and climate scientists say California is likely to face a wet winter.

“There’s no longer a possibility that El Niño wimps out at this point. It’s too big to fail,”said Bill Patzert, climatologist for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge.

“And the winter over North America is definitely not going to be normal,” he said.

Just three weeks ago, the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center raised the odds of California getting doused with a wetter-than-average winter.

Southern California now has more than a 60% chance of a wet winter, a…

Orlando, FL — American consumers have made their tastes clear: ingredients matter. As the standard for quality has risen, so has the demand for fresh ingredients. Increasingly, foodservice distributors can offer the fresh mango solution.

Given its year-round availability, mango has grown in popularity throughout foodservice and across menus and dayparts. A recent survey of foodservice distributors, prepared by IDReport/Winsight, LLC for the National Mango Board, showed that 90 percent of respondents offer some form of fresh, whole mango to their foodservice customers. Results also showed that 91 percent of respondents’ fresh mango sales have either increased or remained steady over the past 2 to 3 years. Fresh-cut and fresh, whole, pre-ripened mango were the two forms of mango cited most often for generating a sales increase.

Availability of fresh-cut and pre-ripened mango is a direct result of consumer demand and operator response. …

2016 USA PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN : This Man Is the Most Dangerous Political Operative in America

It’s nearing midnight as Steve Bannon pushes past the bluegrass band in his living room and through a crowd of Republican congressmen, political operatives, and a few stray Duck Dynasty cast members.

He’s trying to make his way back to the SiriusXM Patriot radio show, broadcasting live from a cramped corner of the 14-room townhouse he occupies a stone’s throw from the Supreme Court.

It’s late February, the annual Conservative Political Action Conference is in full swing, and Bannon, as usual, is the whirlwind at the center of the action.

Bannon is the executive chairman of Breitbart News, the crusading right-wing populist website that’s a lineal descendant of the Drudge Report (its late founder, Andrew Breitbart, spent years apprenticing with Matt Drudge) and a haven for people who …
