MEXICAN MANGO MAFIA : Nearly $1 million worth of cocaine hidden within mango shipment seized

Border patrol agents arrested a 51-year-old man after finding nearly $1 million worth of narcotics in his vehicle at the Pharr International Bridge.

A man from Michoacán, Mexico approached the bridge Wednesday evening hauling shipment of fresh mangoes. 

Further investigation showed that he was concealing 60 packages of cocaine weighing around 151 pounds among the shipment, according to a news release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP officers estimated the narcotics at nearly $1,165,000.

The man was arrested and the narcotics were seized.

Ocean carrier CMA CGM reported a loss of $100 million in the first quarter of 2016 compared to a profit of $406 million in the first quarter of 2015. Core earnings before interest, taxes, disposals and impairment charges totaled $3 million in the first quarter of this year compared to $406 million in the first quarter of 2015. 

The loss came as the third largest container liner company saw revenues for the quarter tumble 15.3 percent year-over-year to $3.4 billion. 

Revenues fell even though the company carried 3.2 million containers in the first quarter, 2.9 percent more than the 3.1 million containers if carried in the first quarter of 2015, due to average revenue per TEU falling 17.6 percent.

The Mexican season began in January and will run until October with a projection of approximately 62.4 million boxes.

Mexico's main varieties are Tommy Atkins (38%), Ataulfo (26%), Kent (20%), Haden (7%), Keitt (8%) and other (1%).

Volume shipped from Mexico was approximately 2,951,006 boxes for a total of 22,475,202 boxes for the season.

During the same week last year, volume shipped from Mexico was approximately 2,686,305 boxes for a total of 28,187,667 boxes.

Country's Central Position Encouraged Investment

TURKEY – DP World Yarimca has been officially opened for business by the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the presence of senior government officials and executives of DP World. 

As one of the biggest in the country, the new terminal can handle up to 1.3 million containers covering 460,000 square metres, enhancing Turkey’s connectivity with Europe and Asia and enabling trade from the heartland of the country's most industrialised region, Izmit Bay.

DP World Yarimca is the first infrastructure project in Izmit Bay to be run by an international operator, and the first in the country to use remote controlled gantry cranes with automated gate operations featuring a vehicle appointment system for faster processing. It also has fast scanner x-ray machines, the first of their kind in Turkey that can scan 120 containers every hour.

JAIPUR: The severe heatwave conditions intensified in dry Rajasthan on Thursday with a majority of stations witnessing maximum temperatures above 46 degrees Celsius. Phalodi in Jodhpur recorded a maximum temperature of 51 degrees Celsius - the highest temperature recorded in the country since 1956, while the state capital of Jaipur had its hottest day in last 11 years with a maximum temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius.
